Helping Hands Assistance Program
Sometimes life can hit you with unpredictable circumstances, needs, and expenses. The VHCC Helping Hands Assistance Program is intended to provide short-term, emergency assistance to students who face unexpected expenses that may get in the way of being able to continue and succeed academically/personally while enrolled at Virginia Highlands Community College. The fund is made possible by generous private donations, grants and public investments.
Types of Emergency Needs Considered for Assistance:
- Books and Educational Supplies
- Transportation
- Utilities
- Housing
- Medical/Healthcare
- Tuition and fees (emergency needs only)
- Other
Students must be currently enrolled at Virginia Highlands Community College. Requests are evaluated on a case-by-case, first-come/first-serve basis while funds are available.
Other resources available to assist students include:
- The Phil Station Food Depot provides nutrition and personal care items
- No cost transportation to campus may be available via the College Express
- If you are the first person to attend college in your family, you may be eligible for extra support through our Student Support Services Program called Excel
- If you were formerly in foster care, our Great Expectations Program might be a good fit
